PRINCIPAL'S NOTE
Hello and welcome to Hawthorne Elementary School's web site.
We are pleased introduce to you our Salt Lake City, Utah school. Hawthorne is located north of historic Sugarhouse and south of Liberty Park, a well known Salt Lake landmark. The new Hawthorne school was built in 1988 on the playground and fields surrounding the original building which was a stately two story edifice facing 700 East. The school was named after Nathaniel Hawthorne a well known 19th century author, and in keeping with this name, a lovely Hawthorne tree graces the front yard of the school.
The students at Hawthorne come from all over Salt Lake City to attend one of three programs. Parents can chose to apply for the Curriculum and Assessment Lab program or our neighborhood program during open window. Our school also is one of three magnet sites for gifted students K-6th. These programs, a traditional school year, and a rich curriculum including a full time visual arts teacher make Hawthorne one of Salt Lake's most desirable schools.
If a convenient and varied after school program is important to you as working parents, you will be pleased with our site. Trips to Liberty Park, Chess Club, arts, sports and homework help make the afternoon fly for our after care students. Hawthorne parents sign up at the district and pay a small daily fee for this service.
We hope you enjoy learning about Hawthorne Elementary school through this site. Should you have questions or wish to know more about our school, please contact the business office at 801-481-4824.
